We love all the interns we get here at the ranch, and it’s always nice to hear how they viewed their experience. We received this review the other day from one of our 2011 interns, Martha. She spent a month at the ranch and this is what she had to say about her experience here:

Looking back on my college internship search, I did not know that I was going to be partaking on one of the best experiences of my life by choosing to be an intern at the Ducheneaux Ranch. When arriving at the ranch I was nervous and unaware of what was to come, yet once meeting Zach and Jenn all nerves were quickly settled. They are the most genuine, caring, and hard working people that you will ever meet, not to mention that their family and friends are just as great and welcoming. I truly looked forward to waking up each day; for days on the working ranch consisted of riding horses, starting colts, sorting cattle, moving cattle, fixing fence, branding, shipping cows, and more. The Ducheneaux’s have a special place in their heart for horses and it can be easily seen through their practices of natural horsemanship. Due to this experience, I have gained a new perspective for my life because of their teachings that consist of patience, the rewarding of tries, and other aspects that I will not only apply to how I will work with horses but people as well. They start everyday as a new day and always look forward to bettering themselves and their horses. I without a doubt miss the beautiful wide open spaces, amazing food, late night guitar and singing sessions, sound of horses eating grass, riding over the many rolling hills, barn chats, going to the river, the wonderful people, and more. Four weeks on this ranch was not nearly enough time. I will forever cherish the many memories that were made. I was so blessed to be given this opportunity and I look forward to coming back one day to not only visit but to get my very own DX Quarter Horse.

Martha- this just warms our heart and we’re so glad your experience here will benefit your time with horses and people. There’s a reason that we borrow a quote from Buck Brannaman- “Horses and life, it’s all the same to me”.

We wish you the best in your life and hope you’re able to come back to visit and get your very own Ducheneaux Quarter Horse.
